Getting Started – Addressing Learning Disabilities
The Davis program is a four part process:
- 1. The Assessment:
This is the first step in the process, and it is to determine if you or your child (the client) is a suitable candidate for the Davis programs. It takes approximately 2 hours, and an appointment is set up at the office in Ottawa (can Skype for long distant clients).
- 2. The Program:
This is an intensive, one-on-one 30 hours of training and takes place over 5 days, 6 hours per day. It is normally conducted from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Kanata. There is a one hour lunch break at 12pm. Each program is specifically tailored to meet the client’s needs and all materials are provided.
- 3. Support Training:
On the last day of the program in the afternoon, support training is given to parents or others involved with the client’s follow-up work. The client will receive materials needed to complete and fulfill their goals.
- 4. After the Program:
I will provide unlimited phone calls consultations, and up to 6 hours (in my office) of review if needed as part of a program. The initial program is just the beginning. Many changes are evident by the end of the week. Children typically increase by one or two grade levels in reading or some other basic skill. Older children and adults often experience a gain of several grade levels. Age, previous experience, and motivation are factors in the rate of success. Future progress is determined by motivation, support, completion of follow-up work, and continued use of the tools and techniques learned in the programs.
